FEAR OF GOD

IF YOU PAY ATTENTION TO THE FASHION WORLD THEN YOU’RE AWARE THAT THERE IS A SUBCULTURE EMERGING AROUND CLOTHING BRANDS LIKE FEAR OF GOD CREATING ”WHITE SUPREMACY” COLLECTIONS. MY GOOD FRIEND BRADLEY EMBODIES THE “FEAR OF GOD” LOOK AS A HUMAN BEING AND HE WAS ACTUALLY A MODEL FOR THEIR FIRST SEASON. WHENEVER I LOOK AT F.O.G I SEE MY FRIEND BRADLEY.

BRANDS OFTEN DO THIS, IT’S NOTHING NEW. BRANDS FIND SOMEONE WHO REPRESENTS THE AESTHETIC THEY ARE LOOKING FOR. MOST BRANDS BASE COLLECTIONS OR EVEN THEIR IDENTITY ON THESE PEOPLE. THE THING THAT PERPLEXES ME THE MOST IS THAT FEAR OF GOD WAS CREATED BY AN ACQUAINTANCE OF MINE WHO IS A BLACK MAN. I RESPECT WHAT THIS MAN HAS CREATED FOR HIMSELF AND HIS FAMILY, AND I CAN NEVER TAKES ANYTHING AWAY FROM ANYBODY WHO HAS MADE SOMETHING. BUT I AM CONFUSED BY THE DIRECTION OF HIS BRAND.

I ADMIT, THERE IS DEFINITELY A LOOK AND FEEL THAT IS VERY CHIC AND MINIMALIST BUT THE WHOLE FABRIC OF THE BRAND IS BASED OFF OF SKINHEAD FASHION. EVEN THE MODELS ARE REMINISCENT OF AMERICAN HISTORY X CAST MEMBERS. WHY ARE WE GLORIFYING A LOOK THAT IS DERIVED FROM A PLACE OF PURE RACISM? WHY ARE WE PUTTING CONFEDERATE FLAGS ON OUR BOMBER JACKETS AS BLACK MEN? I’M JUST ASKING THE QUESTION. I KNOW KANYE MADE A STATEMENT ABOUT IT TALKING ABOUT HOW HOW YOU TAKE THE MEANING OUT OF SHIT AND GIVE IT A DIFFERENT IDENTITY. WELL, WITH THAT KIND OF MENTALITY YOU MIGHT AS WELL HANG A NIGGA AND PUT IT ON ONE OF THOSE HEATHER GREY T SHIRTS. WHY NOT TAKE A PICTURE OF A SLAVE GETTING LYNCHED AND PUT IT ON A BOMBER JACKET? BETTER YET, USE PICTURES OF THE NAZI KIDS (WHO DRESS EXACTLY LIKE THE PHOTO BELOW) ROBBING AND MURDERING A BLACK PERSON.

LISTEN, THIS IS NOT INTENDED TO BE DISRESPECTFUL BUT I WANT YOU TO THINK. WHY IS THIS COOL? WHY DO I WANT TO DRESS LIKE THIS? WHAT IS THE ORIGIN? THE CLOTHES THAT WE PUT ON OUR BODY ARE A DIRECT REPRESENTATION OF WHO WE ARE AND WHAT WE STAND FOR. I FEEL THAT SINCE MOST PEOPLE DON’T HAVE AN IDENTITY OF THEIR OWN THEY ADOPT OTHER PEOPLE’S AND OTHER BRANDS. DONT ADOPT SOMETHING THAT YOU MAY NOT COMPLETELY UNDERSTAND. YOU MIGHT SEND THE WRONG MESSAGE.

THIS PHOTO WAS TAKEN FROM AMERICAN HISTORY X. THIS SHOT WAS FROM A SCENE IN WHICH THEY WERE ABOUT TO ROB A LIQUOR STORE. DO THESE PIECES LOOK FAMILIAR? IT’S FEAR OF GOD’S THIRD COLLECTION.

AS FAR AS THIS COLLECTION GOES, IT’S DEFINITELY BETTER THAN THE FIRST ONE, MORE OF AN EXTENSION WITH BETTER SILHOUETTES. THE CONSTRUCTION HAS ALWAYS BEEN ON POINT AND THE FABRIC SELECTION HAS ALWAYS BEEN AMAZING. FEAR OF GOD PRETTY MUCH CONSISTS OF REALLY BASIC PIECES THAT ARE MEANT FOR LAYERING. ITS VERY RICK OWENS INSPIRED, BUT NOT AS AMAZING.

TO BE COMPLETELY HONEST, EVERYTHING IN THIS COLLECTION I CAN BUY FROM THE DISCOUNT STORE  FALLAS PARADES. THERMALS ARE $1, SWEAT SHORTS ARE $2.99, LONG HEATHER GRAY T SHIRTS are $1.00 AND A RED FLANNEL WOULD COST  MAYBE $5.00 TOPS. OF COURSE YOU WOULD NEED TO ALTER IT A BIT. RIP A SLEEVE HERE AND THERE. YOU GET IT.
